This was one of the most stressful experiences I’ve ever had. I rented this apartment while pregnant and was looking for stability and a long-term home for my growing family. From the very beginning, the landlord repeatedly suggested that we could leave if the apartment did not suit us (while i just asked simple questions and mentioned some things around the apartment that needed to be done), and that was the first hint. However, moving was not something I wanted to consider during pregnancy, so we made every effort to settle in and make the apartment work.
We paid our deposit, always met our obligations, and even invested our own time and money into the property. My father repaired several issues in the apartment himself. Unfortunately, whenever we raised concerns or requested repairs, which was their obligation to fulfill, we were often met with resistance. A simple request to repair a broken kitchen chair dragged on for a long time despite multiple reminders. After I followed up more firmly about unresolved maintenance issues, instead of addressing the problem, the landlord informed us that we should leave because the apartment supposedly did not suit us. We tried to discuss the situation and find a compromise, as we wanted to stay and avoid moving during my pregnancy. However, there was no willingness to negotiate. The landlord effectively shut down the conversation and gave us only two weeks’ notice to leave.
As a mother herself, I expected some understanding of how difficult it is to be pregnant and facing the prospect of moving on very short notice. Instead, despite knowing my situation, she gave us only two weeks to leave and showed no willingness to discuss a compromise. Being forced to search for a new home during pregnancy was incredibly stressful and emotionally draining.
What should have been a time of preparing for our baby’s arrival turned into a frantic housing search and a great deal of unnecessary anxiety.
Another concern was the landlord’s attitude toward our privacy and tenancy rights. The rental agreement included a clause allowing the landlord to enter the apartment to inspect it whenever she wished.
The most disappointing part was the lack of empathy and humanity throughout the process. We treated the apartment with respect, paid on time, and tried to resolve issues reasonably. In return, we felt that our concerns were dismissed and our situation was given little consideration.
Communication was consistently difficult. The landlord was often dismissive, unapproachable, and unwilling to engage in reasonable discussions. Rather than working together to solve problems, interactions frequently felt one-sided, with decisions imposed rather than discussed.
The treatment we received was completely disproportionate to the price we were paying.
I would not recommend this landlord to tenants looking for stability, reasonable communication, or a cooperative approach to resolving problems.
